Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 1 December 2025

1. Introduction

These terms and conditions constitute a legally binding agreement between Pass Cambs Driving School (referred to as "we," "us," "our," or "the Instructor") and you (referred to as "you," "your," or "the Student"). By booking and attending driving lessons with us, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.

2. Service Standards and Professional Conduct

Pass Cambs Driving School is committed to providing professional, high-quality driving instruction. We guarantee:

  • Courteous, polite, and punctual service at all times
  • Professional and ethical conduct throughout all interactions
  • Well-maintained, clean, and tidy training vehicles (weather permitting)
  • Vehicles equipped with dual controls and fully insured for driving tuition purposes
  • No use of lesson time for personal business without your express consent
  • Instruction from Approved Driving Instructors (ADIs) authorized by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA)

3. Instructor Qualifications and Authorization

All instructors at Pass Cambs Driving School are legally authorized, fully approved, and qualified by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) to provide driving instruction in the United Kingdom. Our instructors maintain current ADI licenses and adhere to all DVSA professional standards and guidelines.

4. Student Requirements

4.1 Driving License

As required by UK law, you must hold a current, valid driving license (provisional or full) for the appropriate vehicle category. You must produce your driving license on or before your first lesson. Failure to present a valid license will result in lesson cancellation, and the full lesson fee will be charged.

4.2 Your Entitlement to Drive

As of June 2015, the paper counterpart driving license was abolished. Any endorsements or driving bans will now only be visible online. For insurance purposes, I will be required to check your full license details, in order to ensure that you are eligible to take driving lessons. I will explain fully what is required for this check to be completed. This is to protect you, me, and the general public.

4.3 Eyesight Requirements

You must be able to read a standard UK vehicle registration plate from a distance of 20.5 meters (67 feet) in good daylight. If you require corrective lenses (glasses or contact lenses) to meet this requirement, you must wear them during every driving lesson. Failure to meet eyesight standards will result in lesson cancellation.

4.4 Physical and Mental Fitness

You must be physically and mentally fit to drive. You must inform us immediately of any medical conditions, disabilities, or medications that may affect your ability to drive safely. This includes, but is not limited to, conditions affecting vision, mobility, concentration, or reaction times.

5. Health and Safety

5.1 Substance Use Policy

To ensure the safety of all road users, we maintain a zero-tolerance policy regarding the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs, or any substances that may impair driving ability. We reserve the right to refuse or cancel any lesson if we suspect or have reason to believe you are under the influence of such substances. In such cases, the full lesson fee will be charged, and no refund will be provided. This policy extends to both prescription and over-the-counter medications that may cause drowsiness or impair judgment.

5.2 Appropriate Attire

You are required to wear suitable footwear and clothing for driving lessons. Appropriate footwear includes flat-soled shoes that allow proper pedal control. Unsuitable footwear includes, but is not limited to: high heels, platform shoes, flip-flops, or overly loose footwear. Loose or restrictive clothing that may interfere with vehicle control should also be avoided.

5.3 Shared Responsibility

Safety in our vehicle is a shared responsibility between instructor and student. You must give your complete attention to the driving task at all times. If anything distracts you during your lesson—including instructor behavior, vehicle condition, or external factors—you must immediately bring this to our attention so it can be addressed.

6. Booking, Cancellation, and Payment Terms

6.1 Cancellation Policy

The following cancellation policy applies to all lessons:

  • More than 48 hours notice: Full refund or lesson rescheduling with no penalty
  • Less than 24 hours notice: Full lesson fee charged
  • No show: Full lesson fee charged with no refund

Cancellations must be made via phone call or WhatsApp message. We reserve the right to charge the full lesson fee if we are unable to fill the vacated time slot with another student.

6.2 Instructor-Initiated Changes

We reserve the right to postpone or cancel any lesson under the following circumstances:

  • Adverse weather conditions that make driving unsafe or unsuitable for instruction
  • Dangerous road conditions (ice, flooding, severe fog, etc.)
  • Vehicle mechanical failure or maintenance requirements
  • Instructor illness or emergency

In such cases, we will make every effort to provide advance notice and reschedule at no additional cost. We cannot be held responsible for any costs you incur as a result of lesson changes initiated by us, including but not limited to travel expenses or time off work.

6.3 Punctuality

We will arrive at the agreed pickup location at the scheduled time. If you are not ready or available within 15 minutes of the scheduled start time, the lesson may be abandoned and charged in full. We will attempt to contact you via phone before departing.

If we are delayed due to unforeseen circumstances (traffic, previous lesson overrun, etc.), we will inform you as soon as possible and extend the same courtesy waiting time. Any lost lesson time will be made up at the earliest opportunity, either by extending subsequent lessons or providing additional time at no extra charge.

6.4 Payment Terms

  • Payment is due at the time of booking for individual lessons or at the start of a lesson block package
  • We accept payment via bank transfer, cash, or other agreed methods
  • Block booking packages must be paid in full before the first lesson commences
  • Lesson packages are non-refundable but may be transferred to another person with prior approval
  • Prices are subject to change with 30 days' notice for existing students

7. Driving Test Arrangements

Driving tests always take priority over other lessons, where they have been agreed by me. Therefore, your lesson may be postponed or cancelled to allow for someone else's driving test, or vice-versa. These changes will be communicated by me immediately.

Any test bookings must be made known to me as soon as they are known to you, otherwise I cannot guarantee to provide a vehicle for the test, or any lessons prior to it. In the interests of customer and public safety, I reserve the right to withhold the use of my training car for the test if, in my professional opinion, your driving is actually or potentially dangerous.

10 working days' notice are required by the DVSA should you want to cancel or make amendments to your driving test. Failure to provide such notice will result in the loss of your test fee. I cannot be held responsible for any postponement or cancellation of any tests by either you or the DVSA, or any subsequent charges incurred.

While we offer test booking assistance and can provide guidance on test readiness, the decision to book a practical driving test remains ultimately your responsibility. We will only recommend booking a test when we believe you have reached the required standard. However, test outcomes cannot be guaranteed, as final assessment is conducted by an independent DVSA examiner. If you choose to book a test against our professional recommendation, we reserve the right to decline to accompany you to the test or provide the vehicle for test purposes.

8. Liability and Insurance

Our vehicle is comprehensively insured for driving instruction purposes, including coverage for learner drivers under our supervision. However, you may be held liable for any damage caused to the vehicle resulting from:

  • Reckless or dangerous driving
  • Willful misconduct or negligence
  • Driving under the influence of substances
  • Failure to follow instructor directions in emergency situations

We maintain appropriate public liability insurance. However, we cannot be held liable for any personal injury, loss, or damage arising from circumstances beyond our reasonable control.

9. Personal Data and Privacy

We collect and process personal information in accordance with UK data protection legislation (GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018). Your data is used solely for the purpose of providing driving instruction services and maintaining necessary records. We will not share your personal information with third parties except where required by law or with your explicit consent. You have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time.

10. Behavior and Conduct

We expect all students to behave respectfully and appropriately during lessons. We reserve the right to terminate lessons immediately, without refund, if you engage in:

  • Threatening, abusive, or inappropriate behavior toward the instructor
  • Deliberate damage to the vehicle
  • Racist, sexist, or discriminatory language or conduct
  • Any behavior that compromises safety or creates an uncomfortable environment

Serious misconduct may result in permanent termination of services with no refund of pre-paid lessons.

11. Complaints and Disputes

We are committed to providing excellent service. If you have any concerns or complaints about our service, please contact us directly via phone or email. We will investigate all complaints promptly and work toward a satisfactory resolution. If a dispute cannot be resolved informally, it shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

12. Changes to Terms and Conditions

We reserve the right to update these terms and conditions at any time. Any changes will be communicated to existing students via email or during lessons, with reasonable notice provided. Continued use of our services following notification of changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

13. Your Statutory Rights

I have a statutory obligation to provide you with services fit for the purpose for which they were bought and described. Nothing in these terms and conditions will reduce your statutory rights. If you have any doubts about your statutory rights, please contact your local Trading Standards Agency or Citizens Advice Bureau.
